Closing Our Lincoln Park Location
Al Petri & Sons is proud that we have been Downriver’s cycling source for 73 years! Al & Joyce Petri opened for business on Fort Street in Lincoln Park in August of 1946. We added a second store in Trenton in 1967, (which later moved to Allen Road in Woodhaven, and we even had a Southgate location for a few years in the late 80’s. Over those 73 years, five generations of our family have been serving your grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren, helping them discover the best bicycles, equipment, accessories and service the cycling industry has to offer.
Over those years we have seen many changes and watched the communities around us and even the way people shop transform. Some of those transformations have been wonderful and remarkable, and some of them have brought challenges that we have had to overcome and adapt to.
Times are changing and in light of some of those challenges and as difficult a decision as this has been, we have decided to make the move to one location. We are sad to have to announce the closing of our Lincoln Park store. This shop has been known around the Metro Detroit area for generations and we have long been woven into the fabric of the community here in Lincoln Park. We’ve watched our children, and your children, grow up and learn to ride their bikes here. We’ve shared stories and coffee, and tacos, and so many other things with so many of you here in Lincoln Park. This is very painful for us, and we are sad that the time has come for that to end.
At the same time, we feel we can better serve you if we combine all our knowledgeable, friendly, dedicated staff at our Woodhaven location with store hours that are more in line with when you are looking to shop. We will be able to offer faster turn-around times on bicycle service, and we will be more focused on the things that make cycling fun and exciting. We know this isn’t an easy thing to do, but we are excited about the future of Al Petri and Sons and the future of cycling in Downriver.
We have had many trail systems that have been constructed in the area making cycling easier for us all. People are choosing healthier lifestyles today more than ever and cycling is becoming a larger part of those lifestyle choices. So even though this is a sad day for us, we do believe that we can continue to fill your cycling needs and we will be able to do it better than ever! As most of you know, our business has always been about sharing the love of cycling with others. Of watching that little boy or girl grin when they experience the thrill of the wind in their hair as they take their first ride, or listening to the beginner athlete tell us about completing their first century, or the dedicated cyclist telling us they finally hit 6,000 miles on their bike this year!
In the end, this was a difficult decision, but it is one that had to be made. Our Lincoln Park store will be open through Saturday, August 3rd. If you have the chance to stop in between now and then we would love to see you one last time in our beautiful old building that has become a landmark in the city and share some of those wonderful stories with each other, again.
We will begin the process of consolidating our merchandise and staff to the 22720 Allen Road location in Woodhaven soon. We hope you will continue to shop with us, and we look forward to sharing stories and coffee and tacos, and seeing familiar faces and spending time with all of you at our Woodhaven store.
