SAFE SUMMER CYCLING:

Hot summer cycling tips to help you stay safe bicycling in the summer heat. You need to be prepared to keep your self safe. Summertime offers many cycling dangers including the potential to suffer a heat stoke if not prepared.

  • Drink plenty of water: when cycling you will lose a lot of moisture through your skin. It is important to keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water, which can be stored in a bottle that clips neatly to your bicycle frame.

  • Keep the sun off your head: wearing a bike helmet is essential for safety, but in the summer sun it also helps provide shade.

  • Take breaks: If you feel you are getting too hot while cycling then stop. Make sure you pull over to the side of the road safely, away from traffic.

  • Be seen: although it does not get dark until late in the summer, do not get caught out without your lights.

Celebrate the Journey

The simple act of riding a bike can mean different things to different people. Cycling can be a high-stakes sport - think of the Olympics or Tour de France - or it can be an efficient mobility solution. Riding a bike can be both an indelible childhood memory and a healthy activity to last a lifetime. At Giant, we believe that one of the core values of cycling is an appreciation of the journey. This isn't just some slogan invented in a boardroom, it's a value that helps define the essence of Giant. It's something we live everyday. Join us and start your cycling journey today.

Giant Technology

Giant Bicycle are the best in the world. With state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and world class designers Giant has become the world's largest manufacturer of quality bicycles. Read on to see what Giant is up to for 2010...

Professional Grade
Advanced SL grade composite features the highest performance carbon raw material formed by breakthrough construction techniques. State-of-the-art T-800 raw composite material is painstakingly woven in Giant's own composite factory (a step no other major manufacturers undertake), then hand-crafted into framesets utilizing Giant's most advanced construction technique, Fusion. The process produces the lightest, stiffest and most ride-compliant framesets ever to roll on two wheels! Advanced SL technology is featured on Giant's 2010  TCR Advanced SL, Trinity Advanced SL, Anthem X Advanced SL, and Trance X Advanced SL bikes.

  • Integrated Seatpost - as the pioneer of the integrated seatpost, Giant continues to improve its original design with lighter weight, improved aerodynamics, and a 'tuned' forgiving ride feel.
  • Fusion Process - breakthrough construction technology allows Giant engineers to save significant weight compared to traditional monocoque construction designs, while helping to build the stiffest racing-oriented frameset Giant has ever produced. A two-step molding procedure makes these junctions stronger and  more precise than traditional co-molded junctions.
  • Powercore - a massively oversize bottom bracket/chainstay area features a fully integrated, 86 millimeter wide bottom bracket design capable of accepting Shimano, SRAM, FSA, and Campagnolo bottom brackets. Unprecedented pedaling stiffness is achieved through the next generation, fully integrated bottom bracket standard and intelligent chainstay design.
  • Megadrive - a massive rectangular downtube and oversize toptube work in unison to provide superior front-end lateral and torsional steering precision. the precisely engineered, rectangular-shaped downtube yields unprecedented pedaling stiffness, producing the quickest accelerating, best-handling bicycle Giant has ever produced.
  • Overdrive - an oversize headtube and fork steerer tube create maximum steering precision without additional weight. Hard cornering under the most demanding conditions has never felt so confident.

Pure Performance
Advanced grade composite features high performance carbon raw material formed into framesets by time-tested construction techniques. T-700 raw composite material is painstakingly woven in Giant's own composite factory (a step no other major manufacturers undertake), then hand-crafted into framesets utilizing Giant's advanced monocoque construction technique. The process produces outstandingly light, stiff and compliant framesets. Advanced technology is featured on Giant's 2010 TCR Advanced, Defy Advanced, XTC Advanced, TCR Advanced W and the Avail Advanced bikes.

  • Vector Seatpost - this full-composite, lightweight, and highly aerodynamic seatpost is engineered specifically for the unyielding demands of the performance-minded road rider.
  • Powercore - a massively oversize bottom bracket/chainstay area features a fully integrated, 86 millimeter wide bottom bracket design capable of accepting Shimano, SRAM, FSA, and Campagnolo bottom brackets. Unprecedented pedaling stiffness is achieved through the next generation, fully integrated bottom bracket standard and intelligent chainstay design.
  • Custom-Tuning - hand-cut composite swatches are strategically laid up, piece by piece, to create each frame. By precisely layering more than 500 pieces per frame, the frame's ride qualities are meticulously crafted and controlled, giving the Advanced frameset a stiff ride without sacrificing all-day comfort.
  • Overdrive - an oversize headtube and fork steerer tube create maximum steering precision without additional weight. Hard cornering under the most demanding conditions has never felt so confident.
  • Less Is More - to minimize weight, giant engineers use FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to help develop a strategic lay-up schedule of Uni-Directional and woven composite. this ensures the precise amount of composite material where a frame requires it and minimizes excess material where it doesn't. Advanced grade frames are some of the lightest frames on the market, with rocket-fast acceleration and goat-like climbing prowess.

The Perfect Blend
Alliance is more than just an aluminum and composite story. Giant's mixed-material technology is for riders ranging from competitive racers to weekend club riders. Alliance has been reengineered this year to provide additional comfort and increased efficiency compared to standard aluminum framesets. It accomplishes this through the integration of two traditionally independent frame materials: composite and aluminum. With Alliance, Giant creates a single structure that has the performance benefits of both. Alliance technology is featured on Giant's 2010 TCR Alliance, Defy Alliance, XTC Alliance, XTC Alliance 29er, and the Avail Alliance bikes.

  • Co-Molded Composites for a Quieter Ride - A unique composite insert co-molded to the inside of the aluminum seat tube allows Alliance frames to dissipate significantly more road vibration than traditional aluminum seat tube frames. Say good-bye to your numb hands, forearms, and backside!
  • Composite Upper Structure - for a light and supple ride. A reduction in composite wall thickness cuts weight and improves ride compliance. Vibrations that normally would be transmitted to a rider's hands and backside are dissipated by the composite structure - a tremendous benefit, especially on longer rides.
  • Seamless Junctions - Superior Strength - by wrapping each composite/aluminum union with carbon filament, Alliance frames feature nearly seamless junctions, offering superior frame strength and a smooth appearance.
  • Aluminum Sub-Structure - Pure Pedaling Efficiency. Outstanding power transfer is achieved through the lower aluminum sub-structure's unyielding lateral stiffness, without the drawback of a harsh ride. This construction provides stability and power for high-intensity sprints and power climbs.
  • Aluminum: A Truly Giant Strength - Giants press-formed ALUXX SL butted aluminum tubing features the precise amount of aluminum in critical stress areas. New Alliance headtubes feature even lighter weights and increased stiffness providing lightweight frames with maximum stiffness and outstanding overall strength.

Custom Tuned
ALUXX aluminum technology. Giant pushes the limits of standard aluminum materials and construction with its own ALUXX aluminum technology - a masterful blend of cutting-edge materials science and proprietary forming and construction techniques. From the microscopic manipulation of the atomic grain structure to the introduction of hydro-formed tubesets, Giant engineers have been at the forefront of aluminum technology for over three decades. ALUXX aluminum is the result of their tireless efforts. ALUXX Aluminum technology is featured on all 2010 Giant aluminum bicycles.

  • Stiff & Light - the Best of Both Worlds - formed from raw materials in Giant's own forging facility, this alloy is over 30% stiffer than traditional 6061 series aluminum. This increased stiffness allows our engineers to use less material throughout the tubes, resulting in lighter frames that never sacrifice strength or durability.
  • Fully Manipulated for a Perfectly Tuned Ride - Raw ALUXX SL tubesets are further refined through a complex series of processes that provide strength, weight reduction, and shape. Two key Giant technologies - hydro-forming and press-forming - work together to eliminate gussets, improve stiffness and minimize any extra weight.
  • Design for Supreme Weight Loss Without Strength Loss - most of Giant's competitors utilize old-fashioned gussets (additional pieces of material which are welded to the outside of the junction to provide additional support). Giant pioneered and perfected the use of radically shaped tubesets that provide all the strength and stability of gusseted tubes without added material and welds.
  • Overdrive - an oversize headtube and fork steerer tube create maximum steering precision without additional weight. Hard cornering under the most demanding conditions has never felt so confident.
